Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Hand Pie Crust

01 - 14.1 ounces refrigerated pie crust, 2 crusts

→ Apple Filling

02 - 2 granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces
03 - 2 teaspoons lemon juice
04 - 1 cup water
05 - 2/3 cup granulated sugar
06 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
07 - 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
08 - 1/8 teaspoon salt
09 - 1 tablespoon cornstarch

→ Final Touches

10 - 1 large egg
11 - 1 tablespoon water
12 - 3 tablespoons coarse sugar

# Instructions:

01 - Heat a medium saucepan on medium-low and add apples, lemon juice, water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cornstarch. Stir to combine.
02 - Simmer the mixture while stirring occasionally. Cook until apples are slightly soft and the sauce thickens, approximately 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
03 - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the pie crust and cut into 4.5-inch circles using a circle cutter. Place circles on the baking sheet.
04 - Place 2 tablespoons of apple filling onto the bottom half of each circle. Fold the top half over and press edges together with a fork. Make three small slits on the top with a knife.
05 - Mix egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush it over the top of each pie and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
06 - Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes.
07 - Place 2-5 hand pies in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes.

# Notes:

01 - Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
02 - You can substitute with 2 cans of pie filling for convenience.
03 - To bake in an oven, preheat to 400°F (200°C), place hand pies on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown.
