Italian Turkey Meatballs Marinara (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ For the meatballs

01 - 1 lb ground turkey
02 - 1 egg
03 - 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
04 - 1/2 white onion, finely diced
05 - 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
06 - 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
07 - 2 garlic cloves, minced
08 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
09 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
10 - 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes

→ For the marinara sauce

11 - 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
12 - 1/2 white onion, diced
13 - 3 garlic cloves, minced
14 - 1 teaspoon dried basil
15 - 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
16 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
17 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
18 - 1/8-1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Spray a small sauce pot with non-stick cooking spray and heat over medium. Saute garlic and onions for 1-2 minutes until softened. Add crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Reduce heat to medium-low, stir, and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Set aside.
02 - Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a broiler pan with non-stick cooking spray.
03 - Combine ground turkey, egg, panko breadcrumbs, onion, parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes in a large bowl. Mix well and form into 1-inch balls.
04 - Place meatballs onto the prepared broiler pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until fully cooked.
05 - Toss baked meatballs in the prepared marinara sauce or another pasta sauce of choice, and serve.

# Notes:

01 - You can substitute panko breadcrumbs with regular breadcrumbs if preferred.
