Creamy chicken with onions (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1.3 pounds (600g) chicken breast fillets
02 - 3 onions
03 - 2 garlic cloves
04 - 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
05 - 1 teaspoon brown sugar
06 - 3/4 cup (200ml) heavy cream
07 - 1 cup (250ml) chicken broth

→ Seasonings and Flavorings

08 - Salt and freshly ground pepper
09 - 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
10 - 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
11 - 1 teaspoon dried thyme
12 - Splash of lemon juice
13 - Handful of grated cheese (optional)
14 - Oil for sautéing

# Instructions:

01 - Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. Peel the onions and slice them into rings. Cut the chicken into strips or pieces.
02 - Heat some oil in a large pot and sear the chicken on all sides until lightly browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.
03 - In the same pot, sauté the onion rings and garlic over medium heat until the onions are soft and lightly browned. Add brown sugar and let it caramelize briefly.
04 - Sprinkle flour over the onions, briefly sauté and stir. Deglaze with chicken broth and cream. Add parsley, thyme, and a splash of lemon juice. Bring the sauce to a boil and simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes until slightly thickened.
05 - Return the browned chicken strips to the sauce and stir everything together. If desired, stir in the grated cheese to make the sauce even creamier. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and lemon juice to taste. Stir well and simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked.
06 - Serve with pasta, rice, or potatoes.

# Notes:

01 - Caramelizing onions with a bit of sugar makes them beautifully sweet and especially aromatic.
02 - Don't cook the chicken too long; remove it from the pot after browning and keep it warm. Return it to the sauce along with any accumulated juices.
03 - Vegan option: Use plant-based cream and tofu instead of chicken.
04 - Suitable side dishes include rice, pasta, or potatoes. A tomato or cucumber salad also pairs well.
05 - Want it extra creamy? Add grated cheese or a bit of cream cheese toward the end.
06 - For especially delicious flavor, add a bit of butter to the oil when sautéing.
07 - This dish can be prepared in advance and tastes even more flavorful on the second day.
