Orange Poppy Seed Cookies (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1/2 tsp salt
03 - 1/2 tsp baking soda
04 - 2 tsp orange zest
05 - 2 tbsp poppy seeds
06 - 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
07 - 1 cup granulated sugar
08 - 1 egg plus 2 egg yolks, room temperature
09 - 1 1/2 tsp orange extract
10 - 1 drop orange food color (optional)

→ Orange glaze

11 - 1/2 cup powdered sugar
12 - 1-2 tbsp orange juice
13 - 1 tbsp orange zest, to sprinkle on top (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
02 - Whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, orange zest, and poppy seeds in a medium-sized bowl.
03 - Cream the butter and sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
04 - Beat in the egg and egg yolks until the mixture is light and fluffy.
05 - Mix in the orange extract and orange food color (if using).
06 - Gradually stir in the flour mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
07 - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a silicone baking mat.
08 - Using a cookie scoop, portion out the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
09 - Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the edges and bottoms are very lightly browned.
10 - Allow the cookies to cool for several minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
11 - Whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies.
12 - Let the glaze set up before serving.
