Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 teaspoon cornstarch
02 - 1/2 cup low sodium beef broth
03 - 2 teaspoons olive oil
04 - 1 small sweet onion, diced
05 - 1 small green bell pepper, diced
06 - 4 ounces mushrooms, chopped
07 - 1 pound lean ground beef
08 - 2 tablespoons ketchup
09 - 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
10 - 2 teaspoons taco seasoning
11 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
12 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
13 - 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp white cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
14 - 6 hamburger buns

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat broiler and prepare for use.
02 - In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and beef broth. Set aside.
03 - Heat olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, green bell pepper, and mushrooms, and sauté for 3 minutes until tender.
04 - Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up and browning for an additional 3 minutes. Drain off excess fat.
05 - Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, taco seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
06 - Stir the cornstarch and broth mixture and add it to the skillet. Simmer for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly.
07 - Scoop the meat mixture onto hamburger buns, top with 1/4 cup shredded cheese per bun, and place under the broiler until the cheese melts. Monitor closely to avoid burning. Alternatively, stir the cheese into the skillet until melted and combined.
08 - Serve warm with chips or enjoy as is.

# Notes:

01 - For spicier flavors, add chopped jalapeños or red pepper flakes.
02 - You can substitute ground turkey or chicken instead of beef, and use chicken or vegetable broth instead of beef broth for a different flavor.
03 - Skip the buns and serve the mixture on a baked potato for a creative twist.
