Slow Cooker Dr Pepper Ribs (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 4 pounds baby back pork ribs
02 - ½ of a white onion, chopped
03 - 4 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 1 can Dr Pepper
05 - 1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
06 - 1 cup BBQ sauce
07 - Salt to taste
08 - Black pepper to taste

# Instructions:

01 - Place the ribs on a cutting board and pat dry with a paper towel. On the back side of the ribs, use a small knife to carefully loosen the membrane layer. Gently pull it off and discard it.
02 - Cut the ribs into two chunks and place them into the bottom of a slow cooker.
03 - Add the onion, garlic, Dr Pepper, and liquid smoke (if using).
04 - Cook the ribs on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 7-8 hours. Ensure they are fork-tender as cooking times may vary between slow cookers.
05 - Set the broiler to high and allow it to preheat.
06 - Transfer the ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush a layer of BBQ sauce on top of the ribs. Place them under the broiler and broil for 3-5 minutes, or until you achieve your desired level of char.
07 - Remove the ribs from the oven and serve hot with the remaining BBQ sauce.

# Notes:

01 - Spare ribs or St. Louis-style ribs can also be used as substitutes.
02 - Adding liquid smoke enhances the smoky flavor of the dish.
03 - For an alternative to the broiler, you can grill the ribs to achieve char marks.
