01 -
Preheat the oven to 375F. Butter and flour (or spray with nonstick spray) a 10x15x2 inch baking pan (jelly roll pan) and set aside.
02 -
In a large saucepan, bring to a boil 1 cup margarine, 1 cup water, and 4 tablespoons cocoa powder. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Add 2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 large beaten eggs, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 cups granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup sour cream to the saucepan. Mix everything together well.
03 -
Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and bake on the middle oven rack for about 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool for at least 10-15 minutes before preparing the frosting.
04 -
In a saucepan, bring to boil 1/2 cup margarine, 6 tablespoons milk, and 4 tablespoons cocoa powder. Remove from heat and add in 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional), 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat well until the ingredients are combined.
05 -
Immediately pour the frosting over the warm cake. Let cool until the frosting is set. Then cut and serve.
